HUDSON RIVER

a haze fills east 4th street after the rain lets up

i'd just as soon leave here believe i've had enough

we gather in the subway like the bulge in the belly of a python

while we're down here you try to deal with what you set eyes on

the hudson river is deep and wide

but i've got a home on the other side

what do i have to do to get by your side?

'cause your way is fine

now i'm sitting here in peter cooper park
the street preacher punctuates each sentence with a bark

the gospel singers, they move me deep down

but you hold out an empty hand to pigeons they'll still gather round

the hudson river is deep and wide

but i've got a home on the other side

what do i have to do to get by your side?
'cause your way is fine

the hudson river is deep and wide
but i've got a home on the other side
what do I have to do to get by your side?
'cause your way is fine
